Winter Fashion Essentials
Winter is not my favorite season. The colder temperatures, the snow, the long, dreary days where my skin is holding onto the dream of sunshine and warm breezes. As the days become longer and darker, it may seem like an unending parade of clothing layers; bundling up in your warmest gear just to step outside for a bit. Staying warm is the most important step in your winter dress code. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to sacrifice my style for a frumpy parka or a clunky pair of winter boots! This year I’ve stepped up my winter outdoor gear game and I’ve covered all the basics: layers, parka, boots, beanie, and gloves. I won’t be a spectator standing on the sidelines while my family enjoys the winter fun!
When I went to Big Bear Lake with my family, I kept some helpful advice that I received from a friend in mind. That, along with some basic winter fashion essentials know-how, allowed me to enjoy some time outdoors without fear of freezing or having sopping wet clothes to deal with afterward. If I can survive the winter, you can too. By following some basic winter “rules” we can all make the most of the coldest season of the year!

Layers, Layers, Layers
Layers are winter essentials when it comes to feeling completely comfortable outdoors. For my trip to Big Bear, I made sure to layer my look to provide a fashionable look that was both stylish and warm. I wore a thermal top as an underlayer and topped it with a chunky sweater. Then I threw on my winter parka to complete the look.
Seasons come and go. Winter is no exception. A different season could mean a slight change in how we do things. This applies to the food we eat, recreational activities we choose and not forgetting the wardrobe. Winter is not an excuse to walk around looking like we are in a fashion crisis.
Do winter and style match? Absolutely yes! You can manage to pull an elegant look without looking all layered up like how I did here. Wondering how? Try using one of these best thermal underwear for women – they will definitely do the trick!
Icebreaker Everyday Leggings SHOP NOW
Instead of snow pants, I wore a pair of leggings to make the outfit look more pulled together. I wore a regular pair as my underlayer and athletic moisture-wicking leggings on top of it. With the use of a little layering magic, my legs stayed warm without hiding my shape.
I super love leggings. They’re incredibly versatile so I can dress them up by layering them under a dress or tunic, wear them to the gym for a workout session, or even wear them for lounging around the house. They come in a wide variety of prints and solids, but there is one color you must have in your closet: black.
Black leggings can be incorporated into any outfit. They’re an easy choice to throw on when you’re in a hurry but will perfectly pull your outfit together for a look that suggests you spent the entire morning meticulously planning your clothing choices.
These choices of winter fashion essentials allowed me to stay warm for hours, but didn’t create any added bulkiness to make me feel uncomfortable.
