Winter Fashion Essentials
Winter is not my favorite season. The colder temperatures, the snow, the long, dreary days where my skin is holding onto the dream of sunshine and warm breezes. As the days become longer and darker, it may seem like an unending parade of clothing layers; bundling up in your warmest gear just to step outside for a bit. Staying warm is the most important step in your winter dress code. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to sacrifice my style for a frumpy parka or a clunky pair of winter boots! This year I’ve stepped up my winter outdoor gear game and I’ve covered all the basics: layers, parka, boots, beanie, and gloves. I won’t be a spectator standing on the sidelines while my family enjoys the winter fun!
When I went to Big Bear Lake with my family, I kept some helpful advice that I received from a friend in mind. That, along with some basic winter fashion essentials know-how, allowed me to enjoy some time outdoors without fear of freezing or having sopping wet clothes to deal with afterwards. If I can survive winter, you can too. By following some basic winter “rules” we can all make the most of the coldest season of the year!
Layers, Layers, Layers
Layers are winter essentials when it comes to feeling completely comfortable outdoors. For my trip to Big Bear, I made sure to layer my look to provide a fashionable look that was both stylish and warm. I wore a thermal top as an underlayer and topped it with a chunky sweater. Then I threw on my winter parka to complete the look.

Instead of snow pants, I wore a pair of leggings to make the outfit look more pulled together. I wore a regular pair as my underlayer and athletic moisture-wicking leggings on top of it. With the use of a little layering magic, my legs stayed warm without hiding my shape.

These choices of winter fashion essentials allowed me to stay warm for hours, but didn’t create any added bulkiness to make me feel uncomfortable.
Find a High Quality Winter Parka
Wearing a winter parka that you love can make the time you must spend outdoors much more enjoyable. My winter parka is one of my favorite purchases. It keeps me warm but still provides an element of style. Finding a winter parka to meet your needs in a design you love can be tricky, but when armed with the knowledge of what to look for, the task can seem much less daunting.

Top It Off With a Beanie
Beanies come in so many great colors, patterns, and styles that it should be fairly easy to find one that will mix well with your winter parka. In fact, you may have trouble narrowing down your choices and find several that you must have. That’s not a bad thing though, as I believe that a woman can never have enough beanies. They are a wonderful complimentary piece that provides the warmth needed to get you through the colder months and also gives your outfit a bit of personalized flair.

Invest in a Great Pair of Boots
You really get what you pay for with boots so if you’re looking for a pair that will keep your feet warm and dry through the cold and ice, you may have to spend a bit more to get a high quality boot. Many women pull on their basic UGGs when the temperatures start to drop. They’ll keep your feet warm, but when the snow starts to accumulate you may hope for a pair that provides waterproofing and durability.
There are many great brands to choose from with a variety of different styles and colors. Check out these winter boots.
Keep Your Hands Warm
Gloves and mittens are winter essentials. Having cold fingers and hands makes for a not very enjoyable winter experience so make sure you have a pair of gloves that provides ample warmth and comfort.
With many styles and fabrics to choose from, you can find a pair of winter gloves that perfectly compliments your fashion sense.
Don’t Forget a Scarf
Scarves aren’t winter essentials for outings, but they sure do help in providing an extra layer of warmth, and even style, when the temperatures dip. Just as with beanies, you may find it extremely easy to find more than one that appeals to you. With different fabrics, colors, and shapes, you may amass a small collection that will all perfectly accent your style and outerwear look.
With every body part accounted for, from your hands to your feet to your head, these winter fashion essentials will allow you to be more than ready to tackle the cold winter weather. You’ll not only feel totally comfortable and warm, but your fashion will be on-point as well!
